Description
Cymbium patulum is a large, predatory marine gastropod, commonly known as a baler shell or melon shell. It is characterized by its substantial, ovate, and smooth shell, often with a glossy appearance. The spire is typically very low or completely immersed, giving the shell a somewhat streamlined, egg-like shape. Live specimens, as partially seen in the image, possess a large, fleshy foot that can partially envelop the shell, aiding in locomotion and predation. These shells are often collected for food and as decorative items.
