Description

This image displays a living specimen of Fissurella latimarginata, a large keyhole limpet. The shell is low-conical and oval in shape, characterized by a distinct, elongated apical opening (the 'keyhole'). Its surface is dark, appearing brownish-grey and somewhat encrusted, with visible radial sculpture. A prominent, broad, dark-colored mantle extends significantly beyond the shell's edge, adorned with numerous bright yellow or orange papillae along its margin. The animal is shown adhering to a rocky substrate, characteristic of its habitat.
