Description
A bivalve mollusk characterized by an oval to subquadrate shell, often moderately inflated. The shell surface displays prominent concentric growth lines and may also have fine radial striae. Its coloration is variable, typically ranging from yellowish-brown to grey or whitish, frequently adorned with irregular darker concentric bands or blotches. This species is known for its tendency to 'gape' slightly at the posterior end due to its large siphons, from which it derives its common name. It lives buried in soft sediments.
