Description

A large, robust marine gastropod shell, commonly known as the Granite Limpet. The shell is characterized by its conical, cap-like shape and a distinctive irregular, wavy, or scalloped margin. The interior surface, as shown in the image, is smooth and pearly white to bluish-white, featuring a prominent, often dark brown to black, kidney-shaped central muscle scar. The exterior, visible at the edges, is typically duller, mottled with shades of white, grey, and brown, and can be eroded or encrusted with other organisms. This species is well-adapted to high-energy intertidal environments.
