Description

A small, bivalve mollusk, commonly known as a scallop, characterized by its somewhat rounded to oval shell. The shell itself is a pale, translucent cream to light orange-pink, often with reddish or darker orange mottling, particularly towards the margins. The mantle edge is distinctly reddish-orange and fringed with numerous long, slender, white to translucent sensory tentacles. Along the mantle edge, prominent black ocelli (eyes) are visible, giving the animal a watchful appearance. The shell surface appears finely sculptured or granular, typical of many scallop species. The specimen is shown attached to a reddish, possibly algal or rocky, substrate.
