Description

A small to medium-sized predatory sea snail belonging to the family Trophonidae. Its shell is characterized by a fusiform shape, a turreted spire, and prominent sculpture consisting of strong axial ribs and spiral cords, giving it a somewhat rough or 'scabrous' texture. The image shows a live specimen held between fingers, revealing its light brownish shell and the yellowish soft body with a dark operculum partially visible within the aperture. It inhabits cold, deep waters of the Arctic and subarctic regions.
