Description

A living marine gastropod mollusc, commonly known as a shield limpet. The animal is characterized by a large, extensive, and very dark (almost black) mantle that largely covers its small, internal or partially internal shell. Only a central, cap-like portion of the shell is typically exposed. The specimen in the image is seen on a sandy/rocky substrate with green algae.
