Description
The Spotted Stromb, scientifically known as Strombus mutabilis, is a small to medium-sized sea snail belonging to the Strombidae family. It is highly variable in its shell coloration and pattern, often displaying a mottled or spotted appearance, which likely gives rise to its common name. The shell is typically solid, ovate-conical, with a moderately elevated spire and a large body whorl. A characteristic feature of Strombidae, the stromboid notch, is present on the outer lip, which is often thickened. The aperture can vary in color, sometimes exhibiting purplish or yellowish hues. These shells are commonly found in shallow tropical waters, grazing on algae and detritus.
