Description

Tivela fulminata is a species of marine bivalve mollusc belonging to the family Veneridae, commonly known as Venus clams. Its shell is thick, smooth, and glossy, typically exhibiting a trigonal-ovate shape with a prominent umbo. The most distinctive feature is its striking color pattern, which consists of irregular, often zigzag or lightning-like markings of orange-brown or reddish-brown over a creamy white to pale yellow background. These patterns are particularly concentrated near the umbo and radiate outwards. It is a filter feeder, inhabiting sandy substrates in shallow to moderate subtidal waters.
