Description

The Blackfoot Paua shell is a large, oval, and relatively flattened gastropod shell, characterized by a dull, often encrusted exterior and a strikingly iridescent interior. The exterior surface displays growth lines and a series of open respiratory pores along one edge. The interior is lined with a vibrant nacre, exhibiting a spectrum of blues, greens, purples, and silvers, with a prominent, rough muscle scar.
