Identifying FeaturesThe most distinctive feature is the presence of 6 to 7 very strong, rounded radial ribs, which are often more prominent on the right valve. The shell is generally thin but robust, with unequal auricles (ears) on either side of the umbo. The 'hexactes' epithet refers to the six prominent ribs.

Description
A single valve of the Notochlamys hexactes scallop shell, characterized by its fan-like shape and prominent, strong radial ribs. The shell is found on a sandy substrate and displays a pale pinkish-white base color with distinct reddish-brown or orange-brown streaks along the ribs.
