Description

This specimen consists of two valves of the bivalve mollusc Tawera phenax, likely collected as dead shells. The shells are characterized by their subovate to subtrigonal shape and prominent, regular concentric ribs covering the entire surface. The exterior is a dull off-white to cream color with some brownish-grey staining, particularly in the umbonal area. The interior of one valve is visible, showing a smooth, porcelaneous surface and the characteristic heterodont dentition of the hinge plate. The shells were dredged from a depth of 131 meters in a habitat rich in bryozoans and shell debris.
