Description

The shell of Typhina coronata is a distinctive marine gastropod, characterized by its fusiform to biconical shape and elaborate sculpture. It features prominent, blade-like axial varices (ribs) that are adorned with hollow, tubular spines, particularly noticeable on the shoulder of each whorl, giving it a 'crowned' appearance. A key identifying feature is the presence of a distinct, often circular or oval, anal siphon (posterior canal) on the dorsal side of the body whorl, which appears as a reddish-brown spot in the aperture view. The siphonal canal is long, slender, and closed, extending from the base of the shell. The aperture is ovate, with a denticulate outer lip.
