Description

The Chinese Cowrie is a medium-sized, ovate, and highly polished seashell. Its dorsum features a distinctive central blotch of irregular brown or orange markings, often interspersed with lighter spots, set against a pale cream or off-white background. The margins and base are typically paler, adorned with numerous distinct, irregularly spaced purple or violet spots. The aperture is narrow, lined with prominent, often orange-tinged teeth, and the columellar teeth are well-developed. The shell's smooth, glossy surface and characteristic spotting make it easily recognizable.
