Description

The Gray's Arabica Cowry is a species of marine gastropod mollusk, highly valued for its distinctive and exceptionally glossy shell. The shell exhibits a characteristic ovate and humped form. Its dorsal surface is a rich dark brown, intricately patterned with numerous irregular, pale (whitish to yellowish) circular or oval spots, creating a striking 'leopard-like' or 'honeycomb' appearance. A subtle, often irregular, lighter longitudinal band may also be present dorsally. The ventral side (base) is typically whitish to cream, featuring a narrow aperture lined with numerous fine, dark brown teeth that extend onto both the columellar and labial callus. This species is a prized collector's item due to its unique aesthetic and relative scarcity.
