Description

The shell of Pterynotus martinetanus is a medium-sized, highly sculptured marine gastropod, characterized by its fusiform shape and prominent, frilly varices. It typically exhibits three strong, wing-like axial varices per whorl, which are often elaborately frilled or spiny. The surface between these varices is usually adorned with a reticulated or latticed sculpture. The spire is moderately high, and the body whorl is large. The aperture is ovate, with a smooth, often white or bluish-white interior, and the outer lip is typically denticulate or crenulated due to the varices. A moderately long, straight siphonal canal extends from the base.
