Description

A robust marine gastropod, often found in the intertidal zone. The shell is broadly ovate to somewhat flattened, with a low spire and a large body whorl. Its exterior is typically rough, often encrusted with calcareous deposits and algae, providing camouflage. The most striking feature is its wide, ovate aperture, which displays a vibrant purple or violet color internally, contrasting with a darker reddish-brown columella. The outer lip is thickened and crenulated, also exhibiting the purple hue.
